Concierge in Vaugirard and Porte de Versailles, Paris 15th

The 15th still carries the name of a former town: Vaugirard. It became part of Paris in 1860 and today makes up most of the arrondissement. The administrative quartier of Saint-Lambert covers the south of the arrondissement down to the ring road, and rue de la Convention runs through it. This is where most of the exhibition centre stands.

The longest street inside the Paris ring road

Rue de Vaugirard is 4,360 metres long. It starts at boulevard Saint-Michel and ends at Porte de Versailles, where boulevard Victor meets boulevard Lefebvre. Through the 15th, metro line 12 follows much of its route, stopping at Volontaires, Vaugirard, Convention and Porte de Versailles. Rue de la Convention, 2,120 metres long, crosses it at Convention station. It links the Pont Mirabeau roundabout to place Charles-Vallin, passing through the Javel and Saint-Lambert quartiers. The Convention market sets up on its pavements on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings, according to paris.fr.

Paris Expo, at the end of the street

The Porte de Versailles exhibition centre has seven halls. It spills over into Issy-les-Moulineaux and Vanves, but most of it lies in the Saint-Lambert quartier. The Foire de Paris moved there in 1926 and the Motor Show in 1962, and the Salon de l’agriculture has included the national agricultural competition since 1964. It is served by metro line 12 and by trams T2 and T3a, at the Porte de Versailles stop.

So a flat in the area may host an exhibitor or a trade fair visitor for a few nights, then guests who have come for other reasons. Our article on letting a flat during Paris Expo fairs goes into the detail. Nightly prices follow that calendar, which is what dynamic pricing is for.

Parc Georges-Brassens, the area’s other landmark

In the same quartier, the Parc Georges-Brassens covers 8.7 hectares on the site of the old Vaugirard slaughterhouses. The belfry and the horse market hall are still there. Every weekend the hall holds a market for old and second-hand books, which has run since 1987. There are also rows of pinot noir vines, beehives and a scented garden whose plants are labelled in Braille.
