What to do in the 15th arrondissement of Paris: parks, river and markets

The 15th is not where people come to tick off the big monuments. They come for its parks, the riverside and its shopping streets. These are the places we put in our guests’ welcome book, all of them inside the arrondissement.

Walk the length of Île aux Cygnes

Île aux Cygnes is an 890-metre strip of land in the middle of the Seine, only about eleven metres wide for most of its length. It belongs to the 15th. Since 1878 the Allée des Cygnes has run from one end to the other, between rows of trees and benches. You reach it from the Pont de Bir-Hakeim upstream or the Pont de Grenelle downstream.

At the downstream tip stands an 11.5-metre replica of the Statue of Liberty, by Bartholdi. It was unveiled on 4 July 1889. It first faced upstream, and was turned to face down the river for the 1937 World Fair.

Go up in the Parc André-Citroën balloon

The Parc André-Citroën covers 14 hectares by the Seine, on the former Citroën factory site. It opened in 1992. It has glasshouses, water jets leading to a cascade and a series of themed gardens. Its tethered balloon, the Ballon Generali, rises to 150 metres with thirty passengers. Flights depend on the weather, so check the operator’s website on the day. The park opens at 8am on weekdays and 9am at weekends; closing time changes with the season and is listed on paris.fr.

Take metro line 10 to Javel-André Citroën, line 8 to Balard or Lourmel, or the RER C.

Browse old books at Parc Georges-Brassens

In the south of the arrondissement, the Parc Georges-Brassens replaced the Vaugirard slaughterhouses. It kept their belfry and horse market hall. Every weekend since 1987, that hall has hosted a market for antique and second-hand books. The park also has a pinot noir vineyard, beehives, a Punch and Judy theatre and a scented garden with plants labelled in Braille. Stations: Convention (line 12) and Porte de Vanves (line 13).

Markets and shopping

Rue du Commerce, once the high street of the village of Grenelle, is still one of the busiest in the 15th. To the north, the Grenelle market lines boulevard de Grenelle from rue de Lourmel to rue du Commerce every Wednesday and Sunday morning. To the south, the Convention market fills the pavements of rue de la Convention on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings. These days come from paris.fr, checked in October 2026. By the river, the Beaugrenelle shopping centre rounds things off.

See Paris from above at Tour Montparnasse

Tour Montparnasse is in the 15th, in the Necker quartier, on the edge of the 14th and 6th. It is 209 metres tall with 59 floors. The panoramic observatory is on the 56th floor, and a terrace opens on the 59th, reached by stairs. Its official address is 33 avenue du Maine, near Montparnasse station.

If you are coming for a trade fair

Most of the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre lies in the 15th. Our article on short-term letting during the trade fairs covers how to get there. For the journey from a station or airport, see getting to the 15th.
